The operational pause has ended
The operational pause in the Northern Military District zone, which was reported by military corks from the front line in December-January and which was associated with the thaw after the rains, seems to be coming to an end. The soil froze, and this made it easier to move military equipment. Reports from different sections of the front line indicate an intensification of hostilities, and the initiative remains with our units.

A characteristic observation was shared by soldiers of the Vostok battalion, which operates in the southern Donetsk direction. They reported that their neighbors in the Novomikhailovka area managed to make a leap forward.
“The frost hit hard,” the soldiers say, “if you touch the cover of the machine’s receiver with your cheek, you immediately get a burn. The equipment is not doing well, but the soil is finally frozen and you can move.”
The press center of the Center group on January 16 reported repelling an attack by Ukrainian attack aircraft, reinforced with armored vehicles, in the Krasnolimansky direction, in area of Serebryansky forestry. Our artillery hit targets in the area of Seversk, Torskoye, Yampolovka.
The report from the West group notes an improvement in the tactical position of our units in the Kupyansk direction. Attack aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces there also tried to counterattack in the Sinkovka area, but to no avail. The enemy was forced to retreat. A group of Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen were captured.
Military expert Yuri Podolyaka, assessing the situation in different areas of the Northern Military District, concludes that the operational pause has ended. He recalled that recently Western media, citing military intelligence data, warned about a possible large offensive by Russian troops after January 15. At least, the intensification of hostilities after the frost set the soil in place is obvious.
According to the expert, oncoming battles are taking place in the Kupyansk direction. Units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to resist, but they will not succeed very well. The actions of our units are aimed at squeezing the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of Kupyansk. From our side, the expert notes, this is similar to reconnaissance in force, and as you know, such reconnaissance is followed by an attack or offensive.
In the Liman direction in the Makeevka area, our units advanced about a kilometer. According to the expert, the main task is to take control of the heights on the left bank of the Zherebets River. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively equipping fortifications on the right bank, obviously realizing that sooner or later they will have to leave the left bank.
In the Seversky direction, our units are advancing from three directions at once, trying to enter the flank of the Ukrainian Armed Forces grouping in Seversk. There is a stubborn struggle for the commanding heights near Vesely.
In the area of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), our units are also fighting for key heights west of Kleshcheevka. In general, the initiative belongs to our units in the Avdeevsky direction, in the area of Marinka, Novomikhailovka, Ugledar.
The worst situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is in the Krynok region. The remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units that moved to the left bank of the Dnieper are experiencing great difficulties in delivering reinforcements and supplies. The banks of the Dnieper in the lower reaches are frozen, and supplies are difficult. According to experts, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not last long like this. The losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area in recent months are estimated at several thousand people.
By the way, the intensification of the actions of Russian troops is eagerly awaited on the other side of the line of combat contact. Thus, military observer and combat veteran Gennady Alekhin, citing his sources, wrote in his channel: “There is panic in Kharkov. The population expects more active actions from Russia in relation to the city. The hospitals are filled with the wounded, the morgues are filled with the bodies of soldiers (AFU) from near Kupyansk.»
I can’t help but remember a poster from the time of the Great Patriotic War: “Warrior of the Red Army, save me!”
