Sollers is going to stamp body parts for commercial models Atlant and Argo

According to the plan, the total production volume of body parts for Russian brand trucks should be about 40 thousand sets per year.

The Sollers Alabuga enterprise, which is located in a special economic zone in Tatarstan, has been idle since the beginning of spring 2022. The plant was restarted at the end of autumn of the same year: it was decided to start production of two commercial models, called Sollers Atlant and Sollers Argo. As Kolesa.ru told earlier, they are the result of badge engineering of Chinese JAC Sunray and N25/N35 trucks, respectively.

Initially, the level of localization of models was minimal, but the company plans to gradually move from screwdriver assembly to full-cycle production, including stamping, painting and production of key components, including diesel engines, chassis parts and electronic components.

Now the Russian company has announced the launch of a project to organize stamping production of body parts for Sollers Atlant and Argo. For its implementation, the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) allocated a preferential loan in the amount of 3.4 billion rubles. It is known that these funds will be used for the purchase of new industrial equipment and die equipment.

According to the general director of the company, “ Sollers” Nikolai Sobolev, “stamping production of body parts will be organized using entirely Russian metal.” He also noted that the transition to new grades of steel, including galvanized steel, will, in particular, improve the corrosion resistance of Sollers commercial vehicles.

The company intends to launch mass production of stamped components using Russian steel in the second quarter of next year; it will be organized at the site of the local project partner. The company said that the company plans to establish technological operations for stamping about 120 parts of the body and cabin of commercial vehicles of the Russian brand, as well as to control the geometry of manufactured components. According to the plan, the total production volume of body parts for the Sollers Atlant and Argo models should be up to 40 thousand sets per year.

Recall that Sollers Atlant can have a total weight from 2.5 to 4.2 tons, in its range there are a pair of diesel engines to choose from – with a volume of 1.9 or 2.7 liters, their power is 136 and 150 hp respectively. In turn, the total weight of the Argo is in the range from 2.5 to 3.5 tons, and it is equipped with a 130-horsepower 2.0-liter diesel engine.

It became known earlier that The Sollers subsidiary will receive a preferential loan in the amount of 564 million rubles, which is planned to be spent on localizing the production of a six-speed manual transmission. According to the plan, production should be launched in the second quarter of this year at the industrial site of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. The production volume of manual transmissions in 2024 will be about 7,000 units, subsequently it is expected that the annual figure will increase to 50 thousand units.
