YEKATERINBURG, January 17 Investigators from the Sverdlovsk region have opened a criminal case regarding the injury of a woman in an elevator car in a high-rise building in Yekaterinburg, reports the regional department of the RF IC.
Earlier, the local portal E1 wrote that on Wednesday evening in a ten-story residential building on Kosareva Street in the Khimmash microdistrict, an elevator with a woman inside fell from the height of the seventh floor. According to the regional Ministry of Health, the victim was taken to the neurosurgical department of a specialized hospital with a spinal injury.
“Based on a report of a woman being injured as a result of an incident with an elevator car, a criminal case was opened on the grounds of a crime under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (performing work or providing services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers),” the statement says.
As the head of the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Valery Gorelykh clarified, media reports that the elevator fell from the height of the 7th floor are not true. “In reality, the elevator was stuck between the 8th and 7th floors. To use specialist slang, the elevator “sat on its wedges.” The injured woman is suspected of being injured from the abrupt stop of the cabin,” said a police representative.
According to him, the repair team is already repairing the elevator, and in the near future it will resume normal operation.
