KAZAN, January 21, Adela Ziatdinova. Belarusian swimmer Ilya Shimanovich said that Russian athletes missing the World Aquatics Championships in Doha was unpleasant news for him.
Previously, World Aquatics published on its official website the criteria for admitting Russians and Belarusians to international competitions, allowing them to perform only in individual disciplines in a neutral status. The President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Salnikov, later stated that the national aquatics federations had sent a collective letter of disagreement with the admission criteria. On January 17, World Aquatics reported that no Russian athletes had applied to participate in the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, which will be held February 2-18.
“”Yes, we are going to Doha for the upcoming World Championship. Of course, this is unpleasant news – that the guys from Russia will not be able to take part, because this is additional competition, and competition always generates good results. I am always glad when “There is a maximum number of the strongest athletes at the competition! Expectations, as always, to show your best seconds and surpass yourself!” – said Shimanovich.
Previously, due to the World Aquatics ban, Russians did not participate in the world championships in 2022 and 2023.
