MOSCOW, January 22 Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges believes that Russian Daniil Medvedev influences the opponent's play, exhausts him and makes him play worse than usual.
On Monday, Medvedev (3rd seed), ranked third in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, defeated Borjes in the fourth round match of the Australian Open with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:4), 5:7, 6:1.
«»I think Medvedev affects your play by making you miss too many times. These are long rallies and he just slowly wears you down and makes you feel desperate and play worse than usual. I really felt it. I thought «That I had the shots to make a difference. And he just made me hit it again and again and again and again until I finally made a mistake,» Borges said at a press conference.
«He was very good at making me feel like I was desperately trying to win a point. He always read my game. That's probably why he's so good. Even if you feel like you're in control of the match, you really are not like that. He won’t give up a single point so easily,” added the 26-year-old tennis player.
In the quarterfinals, Medvedev will play against the ninth seeded tournament, Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
