A comprehensively updated electric Porsche Taycan will hit the market this coming spring, its top version has noticeably added power: factory test driver Lars Kern has already set a new Nurburgring record in the class of production electric vehicles with it, having completed the Nordschleife in 7 minutes 07.55 seconds.
On the official website of the Nurburgring you will not find a new Porsche Taycan record, since the premiere of the updated There has not yet been a version of this model, but we trust the Porsche press service 100%, so there is definitely a new record – the company promises to publish a video of the race in mid-March. Around the same time, we believe, we should expect the official premiere of the updated Taycan.

For comparison, let's say that the previous Nurburgring record in the class of serial electric vehicles was set last year and belongs to the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package – 7 minutes 25.231 s, and the Rimac Nevera last year drove the Nordschleife in 7 minutes 05.298 s, becoming the best in the electric class supercars. It turns out that the updated Porsche Taycan in its characteristics is very close to the class of supercars.
Let us recall that the Taycan sedan became the first production electric car in the recent history of Porsche; it debuted in the fall of 2019. It is based on the J1 platform; in addition to the Taycan, only its clone from Audi is built on it – the e-tron GT sedan. In 2021, the Taycan received versions of Cross Turismo (cross-station wagon) and Sport Turismo (station wagon) – it is gratifying that they will remain after restyling, while the Porsche Panamera in the new generation has lost the station wagon body.

You shouldn’t expect radical changes in the design of the Taycan, but the shape of the bumpers and lighting equipment has been adjusted so that you can clearly distinguish the updated electric car from the pre-reform one. Specific details are still classified; official photographs show the updated Taycan in camouflage wrapping. The salon will receive a more modern electronic filling combined with minor cosmetic updates.
There will be much more changes in terms of hardware. Electric motors will become more powerful and efficient; the all-wheel drive top version, according to rumors, will have a power of about 1000 hp. against a maximum of 761 hp the current Taycan Turbo S. The chassis has been completely retuned, the handling has become noticeably better – without this it would have been impossible to achieve a new Nurburgring record.
Porsche reports that there are so many technical changes in the Taycan that the updated model had to undergo a full cycle of driving tests, as for a completely new model. Today's press release from the company says that the updated Taycan has covered 3.6 million km on various testing grounds and public roads in different countries and continents; the outside air temperature during testing varied from -41 in northern Finland to +53 °C in California's Death Valley (USA).
Last year, global sales of the Porsche Taycan, according to manufacturing company amounted to 40,629 units, which is 17% more than sales in 2022. Restyling will obviously further spur demand, despite the expected rise in price.
