Why Beverly Hills elite like Leonardo DiCaprio might be banned from home renovations

State municipalities are required by law to develop a housing strategy that includes affordable housing.

In 2018, the Beverly Hills project included only three new homes.

However, all five projects put forward by Beverly Hills were rejected by the state, which decided to accept tough measures by introducing a moratorium on home renovations, including kitchen and bathroom renovations.

The Municipal League, a 60-year-old community organization, has sided with Beverly Hills.

Thomas White, the organization's chairman, told the LA Times: «We have intentionally created a desirable environment by deliberately avoiding overdevelopment. and over-compaction.

“When you try to put too many sardines in a sardine can, you end up with something inedible.

“Same here. You have a completely built-up city, and the government wants to move a lot more people into it. We don't want our city to be destroyed one square foot at a time.»

Rodeo Drive, a two-mile-long street, is lined with high-end stores catering to the city's billionaire residents. The problem was providing housing for people who worked in boutiques and cafes.

Andrew Slocum, co-owner of Urban Development Co, told The Telegraph: «It's just a city that just doesn't have affordable housing.»

“So most of your workers have to travel from 50 minutes to an hour, sometimes longer, to come and work at a Starbucks or coffee shop.”

He added: “The city has not acted in good faith in correcting these guidelines or providing housing.» element that will truly create affordable housing in their city.

“Some municipalities say affordable housing is great. Just don't put it here.»

He predicted that Beverly Hills would eventually have to comply or risk losing its planning powers entirely.

In 2022, the city faces historic drought. prohibit households from watering their gardens more than twice a week.

And even on those days when irrigation was allowed, residents were prohibited from using drinking water from 9:00 to 17:00.

Other restrictions were also included. limiting sprinkler systems to eight minutes, and “drip irrigation,” which places less water on plant roots, to 20 minutes.
