XI Yugra Ski Marathon will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk on April 6–7, 2024. A special feature of this year should be the unusual finish of the marathoners, who will run 50 km in the classic style: they will finish in the city park “Valley of Streams”. The large-scale event will be supported by VTB Group, continuing Otkritie Bank’s long-standing tradition of organizing a marathon. Registration of participants on the marathon website is already open.
This year, the marathon organizers have moved both races to weekends, which will increase the number of starting participants. On the first day, Saturday, April 6, ski lovers will be able to freestyle any of three distances: 5, 25 or 50 km. Unlike previous marathons, this year the race will be a time trial. On the second day, Sunday, April 7, athletes will run 25 and 50 km in the classic style. The start will be in the floodplain of the Gornaya River, and the participants will finish in the “Valley of Streams.”
Anyone can take part in the 5 km race on the main start day, April 6, by paying the registration fee and registering on the marathon website – ugraloppet.ru. Skiers over 15 years old are allowed for the 25 km distance, and over 19 years old for the 50 km distance, who have also paid the registration fee. Until the end of January, there is a discounted cost for the application; in addition, those wishing to receive a personalized bib number can order it for an additional fee upon registration until February 1.
“Khanty-Mansiysk will become the ski capital of Russia for the 11th time. I am sure that for many sports fans, the Ugra Marathon is a good and obligatory tradition, a bright closing of the ski season. Supporting such a wonderful family sports event is in line with the values adopted by VTB Group. Last year, the marathon set a record for the number of participants, I hope that this year we will reach new heights,” said Vitaly Mosunov, joint business leader of VTB and Otkritie banks in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra.
The Ugra Ski Marathon has been held annually since 2013. Its organizers are the government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra, the Ugra Ski Racing Federation and the YugraMegaSport AU with the support of Otkritie Bank (VTB Group). Last year, skiers from 61 regions of Russia came to Khanty-Mansiysk. 3.8 thousand ski lovers took to the start line.
In different years, Olympic champions Alexander Legkov, Evgeny Dementyev, Alexander Bolshunov, Sergey Ustyugov, Tatyana Sorina became the winners of the Ugra Ski Marathon. It was attended by such titled athletes as the only two-time winner of the title of “King of Skis” in history, Norwegian Petter Northug, members of the red group of the Russian cross-country and biathlon teams Alexey Chervotkin, Evgeny Belov, Yulia Stupak, Natalya Nepryaeva, Nikita Porshnev, Svetlana Sleptsova , Karim Khalili and others.
