MOSCOW, January 26 American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin fell during downhill at the World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
On one of the sections of the track, the athlete, leading in the overall World Cup standings, lost her balance after the springboard, fell and flew into the fence. After the help of doctors, the skier got up, but could not step on her left leg. The American was sent to the hospital by helicopter.
In mid-February, Norwegian skier Alexander Omodt Kilde, with whom Shiffrin is in a relationship, was injured after a fall. During the downhill, the two-time Olympic medalist was unable to enter a turn and crashed into the net. Doctors had to hospitalize the victim by helicopter. As a result of the incident, Kilde suffered a dislocated shoulder and a cut to his shin.
Shiffrin, 28, won a gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Games in slalom and also won the top honor at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics in giant slalom. She also won silver in the combination at the Games in South Korea. She is a seven-time world champion and a five-time overall winner of the World Cup.
