Russian office Jaecoo (Jayku) continues to share details about the brand’s second model – the Jaecoo J8 crossover. Let us remind you that the brand belongs to the Chery company; it was created last year specifically for export markets. The first-born was the more compact SUV Jaecoo J7 (in some countries — simply Jaecoo 7); it launched in the Russian Federation in September 2023. By the way, in its native China, the “seven” is sold as Chery Explore 06, while the “eight” is Chery Tiggo 9 with a different emblem and nameplates.
In terms of dimensions, the Jaecoo J8 intended for Russia is the same as the original model. Length – 4820 mm, width – 1930 mm, height – 1710 mm, wheelbase – 2820 mm. In its homeland, Chery Tiggo 9 comes with a five- or seven-seat cabin, but they have not yet told us about the configuration of our version.
There is only one engine for two – a 2.0 petrol turbo-four, but for Russia it was derated: the press release indicated a power of 249 hp. instead of 261 hp in China. It is curious that at the time the news was published on the Russian Jaecoo website there was a completely different figure — 183 hp. But it is not yet clear whether the engine of our Jaecoo J8 will have two power options, or whether there is simply an error on the website. Be that as it may, in the Russian Federation the crossover will be offered with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, adaptive suspension and standard all-wheel drive. In the Middle Kingdom, Chery Tiggo 9 also comes with front-wheel drive, plus there it can have a classic eight-speed automatic transmission.

Two trim levels are announced for the Russian Jaecoo J8 — Active and Supreme. The list of standard equipment includes heated washer nozzles and windshield, heated steering wheel and all seats. Depending on the version, the crossover also includes LED optics, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic roof with sunroof, Nappa leather, front seats with a massage function, combined virtual instrumentation and touchscreen multimedia system, head-up display, atmospheric interior lighting (256 colors), dual-zone climate control with voice control, wireless charging for a smartphone, traffic jam assistant, auto braking systems, blind spot monitoring and lane marking monitoring.

It is reported that the Jaecoo J8 intended for the Russian market is undergoing the final stage of certification tests. The new product will go on sale in the near future: the exact date has not yet been announced, as well as prices. The younger Jaecoo J7 with a 1.6 turbo engine (186 hp) today costs from 3,339,900 rubles (excluding shares).
Meanwhile, in 2024 the Jaecoo brand also plans to introduce RF rechargeable hybrid versions of J7 and J8.
