Germany spoke out about the siege of Leningrad on the anniversary of its liberation

Germany said it accepts full responsibility for the siege of Leningrad

The German Foreign Ministry spoke about the blockade of Leningrad on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city. They emphasized that the country fully accepts its responsibility.

“The Federal Republic of Germany stands for preserving the memory of the horrors of war crimes committed during the Second World War, and recognizes its historical responsibility for the crimes committed by the German Wehrmacht in Leningrad,” says the department’s website.

They added that, as a sign of reconciliation, they are financially supporting the modernization of the hospital in St. Petersburg, where survivors of the siege who are now alive are being treated. The Foreign Ministry also indicated that the memory of those terrible events should be preserved and passed on to future generations. At the same time, in the same article, the German Foreign Ministry once again condemned the fighting in Ukraine.
