On Friday, Medvedev won a strong-willed victory over Alexander Zverev representing Germany in 4 hours 18 minutes with a score of 5: 7, 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 7:6 (7:5), 6:3 and reached the final of the Australian Open, where he will play with Sinner, who had previously beaten the first racket of the world, Serbian Novak Djokovic. The score of personal matches is 6-3 in favor of the Russian. At the same time, the Italian won the last three matches. Medvedev will play in the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the sixth time, having previously won the US Open in 2021.
“»I hope that experience in Grand Slam finals will give an advantage. I probably don’t have a physical advantage. Tennis advantage — We'll see. But the last three times he got the better of me. So I hope this experience will help me. The first final, I think, is always different for everyone. I'm sure some guys made it to the first final and felt so good that they just managed to, I don’t know, win it. There are probably such stories,” Medvedev said at the post-match press conference.
“»Some came out, it was difficult for them psychologically — they lost. I don’t know how Yannick will do, but I have experience. I will try my best. I will fight for my life, we’ll see, who will win,” the Russian added.
The meeting between Medvedev and Sinner will take place on Sunday.
