MOSCOW, January 26 Romania decided to refuse to participate in Eurovision due to financial difficulties and the inability to perform at a decent level, TVR channel reported.
“
"Financial restrictions and the desire to represent Romania at a high level are the reasons why the Board of Directors decided that TVR will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year,” the statement said.
The Board of Directors made this decision at a meeting on Thursday with five votes «behind». Four people were against this decision and the same number abstained.
The budget of the TV channel, which traditionally selects the Eurovision participant from Romania, was also approved.
The TVR Board of Directors noted that costs in 2024 increased due to the broadcast of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, investments in the news production system and projects to modernize the channel.
Eurovision 2024 will be held in Swedish Malmö in May this year. The country won the rights to host the competition after singer Lauryn won the competition last year.
