MOSCOW, January 27, Andrey Simonenko. International Skating Union ( ISU) intends to simplify the programs in order to deprive Russian skaters of an advantage in jumps, says Nina Moser, General Director of the Moscow Figure Skating Federation (FFKKM), Honored Coach of Russia.
Earlier, a source reported that the ISU technical committee advocates reducing the number of jumping elements in the free skating program from seven to six by eliminating one of the three cascades currently allowed. In addition, it is proposed to add one choreo element to the free program. Also in the free program of pair skating, reducing the number of lifts by one and eliminating the solo jump is being considered.
“”This is a double-edged sword. International experts have called me and already asked this question. Maybe from an artistic point of view this is great progress. I commented on pair skating at the European Championships, and there people from the last support almost got killed, this it was scary. Maybe if there is a choreographic element, it will be nice. But the fact that the jumping area is being taken away from the Russians is also understandable. When the Russians do jumps, they fly up strongly. They try to equalize everyone so that there is competition” , Moser told reporters.
“In recent years (when Russian figure skaters competed at international competitions) all the medals went to Russia. That's why they are trying to solve this issue. Let's see, time will tell where this will lead. There is no one criterion, with the same music – to the Chinese “An American likes one thing, an American another, a Russian another. The perception is different. Maybe this is the beauty of figure skating, when judges are from different countries, and they are given the opportunity to compare?” – added the Honored Trainer of Russia.
