MOSCOW, January 24 The most popular form of social activity of Russian youth is leisure. It is followed by Internet network, educational and developmental and socio-economic forms of social activity, SSU scientists have established. The results of the study were published in the journal «RUDN University Bulletin: Psychology and Pedagogy».
Social activity is understood by modern science as part of the way of life in society, manifested in various types of activities — volunteer, creative, communicative, civic and others. All age groups are involved in various forms of social activity, however, according to experts, the most important thing is its implementation in youth (13-19 years old) and youth (20-30 years old).
Scientists from the Saratov National Research State University named after N. G. Chernyshevsky (SSU) studied the structure of social activity of young people and determined what role the civil identity, religiosity, gender and education of a young person play in choosing its form. The sample consisted of 305 people (men – 35.4%).
Experts have found that young people are active in many ways, and this activity has its own internal logic. According to scientists, the preferences of young people can be combined into groups: for some it is civil-political, for others it is protest-subcultural, for others it is spiritual-educational; for the fourth — leisure.
According to researchers, the structure of youth social activity is very complex; young people participate more intensively in some groups and less intensely in others. At the center of this structure is usually spiritual activity, which includes a passion for literature, painting, art in general, spiritual development and is associated with all forms except subcultural. At the same time, girls more often prefer spiritual and educational types of social activity than boys.

“We found that young people, especially the youngest and least religious among them, prefer leisure activities. Also, their choice often falls on those types of social activities that are associated with their main employment (as a rule, this is educational activity) or with daily worries,” said Rail Shamionov, head of the department of social psychology of education and development of SSU.
Scientists note that Internet networking, educational, developmental and socio-economic activities are of great importance in the lives of young people; they are closely related to each other and form a rigid and stable structure. Civil and political forms of activity are least expressed in the lives of young people.
The study, according to the authors, confirmed the significant role of identity, education, age and religiosity of young people in their social activity. At the same time, scientists proposed using a four-component factor model of forms of activity (civil-political, protest-subcultural, spiritual-educational, leisure forms) for subsequent analysis.
The results of the work will make it possible to competently organize the social activity of young people: to involve them in socially normative forms and block asocial ones, says Rail Shamionov.
«In the organization of youth social activity needs to take into account the role of gender, education, identity and religiosity. The important conclusions of our study are not just the significant significance of these variables for certain types of social activity, but also their influence on the choice in favor of radicalization of activity, or in favor of abandoning her,” he noted.
During the study, scientists used special monoscales. Civic identity was determined using the scale of A.N. Tatarko. Methods of descriptive statistics, factor, correlation, and regression analysis were used.
