Boxing He will have an undisputed heavyweight champion at the start of 2024 after Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk agreed to fight each other in Saudi Arabia.
Fury holds the WBC belt, which he won in 2020 by defeating Deontay Wilder. He has defended the belt three times: against Wilder, Dillian Whyte and most recently Dereck Chisora.
Usyk has held the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles since defeating Anthony Joshua in 2021. He defended these titles. twice since then: against Joshua and then against Daniel Dubois.
Both Fury and Usyk have not yet lost a single defeat in their professional boxing careers.
The last time boxing had a unified and undisputed heavyweight champion was 2000, when Lennox Lewis held all four titles.
When will the Fury vs. Usyk fight take place?
The fight is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2024
At a press conference to confirm the date, Fury said of Usyk: “I’m going to arrest him. Sausage. Ugly little man. Rabbit. Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run. Do you know what will happen? You will be broken into pieces, sausage. You're fighting the best British heavyweight there's ever been.
“You beat the rest, but you didn't beat Tyson Fury, you sausage. You can never beat me. If you beat me in your sleep, you better wake up and apologize. I stole this from Muhammad Ali, I'm sorry.
“When you sleep at night, you ugly man, you'll be thinking about me for the next eight weeks. I'm going to punch you in the face. You ugly little man.”
Where will the fight take place?
The fight will take place in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. As part of the fight's promotion, Fury went on holiday to Saudi Arabia, to the delight of Usyk's team.
Egis Klimas, Usyk’s manager, said: “When one is playing, the other is training hard. See you on February 17th.”
How can I watch it in the UK?
TV details have not been released but the fight is guaranteed to be on pay-per-view, likely to cost over £20.
