The decision is related to a recently identified problem: we are talking about violations during certification tests of engines of cars made by a Japanese corporation.
A series of “scandals” continues in the automotive world, which now also affect the Japanese concern Toyota Motor. Today, the manufacturer's press service announced that a decision had been made to temporarily stop deliveries of several models. The reason is the identified falsification of data on the power of diesel engines by a subsidiary of Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO).

According to the official report, the contractor measured the power of a number of diesel engines during certification tests using “an electronic control unit with software that differed from that used for mass production.” Toyota Motor believed that this could lead to inaccuracies in measuring engine power.
As an internal commission of the Japanese automaker found out, we are talking about diesel engines of the 1GD, 2GD and F33A series, which were developed by a subsidiary of Toyota Industries Corporation. At the same time, Toyota re-checked the serial products produced at the TICO plant and found that these engines met the required standards. “There is therefore no need to stop using the affected engines or vehicles,” the company added.

The decision to temporarily stop supplying cars is due to the need to re-certify, test “in the presence of witnesses” and give all the necessary explanations to the regulatory authorities regarding the situation.
So, the suspension of shipments included: Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota Land Cruiser 300, Toyota Hilux (both the version for the domestic market and the global version), Toyota Fortuner, the Toyota Innova minivan sold in Asian countries, as well as the Lexus LX 500d and commercial vehicles cars — Toyota Dyna/Hino Dutro and Toyota Hiace/GranAce.

Recall that at the end of last year, Toyota’s subsidiary, Daihatsu, was at the center of the scandal. She, in particular, was accused of falsifying crash test data and a number of other violations affecting the safety of vehicle operation. In total, regulators identified more than 170 violations directly related to dozens of models that are sold, including under the parent brand Toyota.
As a result, these cars fell into disgrace: on the list of “problematic” included the Toyota Pixis, Probox, Roomy and TownAce vans. The Japanese concern decided to suspend supplies of Daihatsu cars (also produced under the Toyota brand) both on the domestic market and abroad.
As it became known at the end of 2023, Toyota set a new record for the production of cars on its own factories around the world.
