Children die of starvation death in besieged the Gaza Strip, where people eat leaves and animal food in a desperate attempt to stay alive.
Life-saving assistance to the enclave continues to be delayed by stalled ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. Thousands of families are struggling to find food.
Ten children died at the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, the UN confirmed for the first time on Monday.
Yazan Al Kafarne, the 10th person, was filmed by local journalists in the hospital days before his death, looking emaciated and barely could speak.
The Hamas-led Gaza Health Ministry later said that a total of 15 children died in hospital from malnutrition and dehydration.
Diala Abu Sultan is six months old and exhibits severe signs of malnutrition and skeletal fragility. In recent weeks, her parents couldn't find or afford milk, so they gave Diala water that was likely contaminated.
“I can't see my baby crying day and night because… for severe hunger and colic,” her mother Diana told The Telegraph on Monday. “Her bones have become visible and she refuses to eat anything.”
Doctors told the family the baby needed vitamins, nutrients and prescription medications, but none of those could be found.
