New crossover BAIC Beijing BJ30 revealed in corporate photos

In the next generation, the Chinese cross changed its image and grew significantly. It is expected that customers will be offered both a purely gasoline and a hybrid SUV.

In certification photographs, the new generation BAIC Beijing BJ30 crossover appeared last fall, and the manufacturer itself distributed official teasers at the end of February. Now full-fledged branded images have appeared. Let us remember that its predecessor has been in service since 2020, and this five-door is not an original model: the BJ30 index was assigned to the BJ20 SUV, which underwent a large-scale restyling (the “twenty” debuted in 2015).

In the second generation, the crossover was radically transformed in appearance, although it did not cease to be brutal. Design features include an impressive body kit, headlights fused with the radiator grille, diode semi-rings of running lights and luminous additional “touches”, as well as vertical blocks of rear lights.

Beijing BJ30 has grown noticeably. The length of the “second” model is 4730 mm, width – 1910 mm, height – 1757 or 1790 mm (depending on the version), wheelbase – 2820 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the previous generation BJ30 are: 4505/1855/1710 mm, the distance between the axles is 2675 mm.

BAIC has not yet declassified the interior of the new product. However, spies have already come across a fresh “thirty”; inside there are separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system, a two-tier central tunnel and a compact gearbox selector.

In the documents of the Ministry of Industry of the People's Republic of China, a 1.5 petrol turbo-four with a power of 188 hp was declared for the new Beijing BJ30. At the same time, according to preliminary data, the model will also be offered with a hybrid setup based on the 1.5T. There are no other details about the technology yet. The previous crossover is available with a 156-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

The premiere of the second generation BAIC Beijing BJ30 is expected at the Beijing Motor Show, which opens in April. Neither the old nor the new “thirty” were announced for Russia, but Kaliningrad Avtotor is actively developing the BAIC model range, so that later a fresh crossover may well reach our market.
