In November 1943, troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front approached the banks of the Dnieper near Kherson. Due to heavy fighting for the bridgehead on the Left Bank, the encirclement of the city had to be postponed, and the Soviet army launched an attack only in March 1944. We tell you how, thanks to the extravagant feat of the “father of the Airborne Forces” Margelov, his fighters found themselves at the forefront of the liberation of Kherson.
