Now it’s official: Haval announced the launch of an engine production plant in Russia

The production capacity of the new site is designed to produce over 100 thousand engines annually. Gasoline engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters began to roll off the assembly line.

The Haval brand belongs to the Chinese concern Great Wall Motors (GWM); the brand was presented for the Russian market in 2014 at the Moscow International Motor Show. The first-born of the model range in the Russian Federation was a large SUV, which was given the name Haval H9. In 2019, the company opened a local automobile plant, it is located near Tula, and in 2023, against the background of the massive departure of foreign brands from the Russian market, sales of a number of “celestial” brands increased significantly, including Haval. Thus, last year the figure was 111,720 copies, which is more than three times the result of 2022.

Now the Russian representative office of Haval has officially announced the launch of an engine production plant in the Russian Federation. This step was taken as part of the implementation of the plan for the localization of key components, which is provided for in the special investment contract (SPIC), signed in September 2020.

It is known that the construction of an engine production plant with an area of ​​10 thousand square meters began in November 2020. It is located on the territory of an existing full-cycle enterprise in the Uzlovaya industrial park in the Tula region. The company noted that the newly launched production site made it possible to create three hundred additional jobs.

According to the President of Haval in Russia, Zhang Junxue, the planned production capacity of the new site exceeds 100 thousand engines per year. “This complex is the next stage in the implementation of obligations in the field of vehicle localization,” he added. “Deep localization helps strengthen our position in the market.”

Two gasoline engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters will roll off the assembly line of the engine plant: most of the brand’s models presented in the Russian Federation are equipped with them. The company noted that in the future, the Haval engine plant may expand the line of produced engines.

The current model line includes crossovers Jolion (both pre-reform and updated versions), M6, F7 and F7x, H9, as well as Dargo and Dargo X, most of them are produced at the Tula plant. The brand's bestseller (as well as the best-selling new foreign car in the Russian Federation) remains Jolion: in the first two months of this year, this SUV sold 9.4 thousand copies, which is almost 2.5 times more than in January-February 2023 .

We remind you that in the future the line of the Chinese brand will be replenished with other new products, one of the upcoming ones will be an SUV with a brutal appearance, which was given the name Haval H7. This crossover is based on the Lemon platform, familiar from the Dargo presented in the Russian Federation.
