Carlo Ancelotti will become the latest football icon to be charged with tax fraud, for which he faces nearly five years in prison if convicted.
Spanish prosecutors announced Wednesday that the Real Madrid coach is being prosecuted for allegedly defrauding the taxman of €1 million (£0.9 million), an offense punishable by four years and nine months in prison.
Ancelotti is charged of using shell companies to hide part of his income during his first spell at the club ten years ago.
Prosecutors say Ancelotti only declared income he received from Real Madrid, not income from image rights. Instead, he created a «confusing» system to hide his extra income.
The 64-year-old Italian was in charge of Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015 before returning to the club in 2021.
