Former BMW designers worked on the appearance of the first electric car from one of the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturers, the Xiaomi SU7 looks no worse than the Porsche Taycan, and at the same time, it costs as much as a Tesla Model 3.
The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan is the main novelty of the Chinese automobile industry, if not for the whole of 2024, then at least for the first quarter; it has been especially discussed in the Chinese press in recent months We prepared a lot for the premiere — today it finally took place.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun officially announced the creation of an automobile division at the end of March 2021, with an investment of at least 10 billion US dollars. Xiaomi SU7 is based on the Modena modular platform, the technical presentation of which took place at the end of last year. Batteries for Xiaomi SU7 will be supplied by BYD and CATL. The electric sedan will be assembled by a new high-tech BAIC plant in Beijing; large-unit injection molding is used in the production of the body, which achieves high torsional rigidity — 51,000 Nm/deg.

The Modena platform has a flexible electrical architecture — 400- or 800-volt, depending depending on the model version. For this platform, Xiaomi has developed its own line of highly integrated HyperEngine power modules, which combine an electric motor, gearbox, inverter and control unit.
The design author of the debut Xiaomi model is Li Tianyuan, who previously worked at BMW and oversaw the development of the iX electric crossover there. During the presentation of Xiaomi SU7, former BMW chief designer Chris Bangle also appeared on stage — he, as it turned out, is a design consultant for Xiaomi.

The declared aerodynamic drag coefficient cx is 0.195.
The standard equipment of the Xiaomi SU7 includes adjustable adaptive air suspension, the front is on double wishbones, the rear is multi-link. Powerful disc brakes are supplied by Brembo. At the moment, Xiaomi SU7 is offered in three versions. The basic SU7 for 215,900 yuan (2.76 million rubles translated at current exchange rates) has a single electric motor on the rear axle (299 hp, 400 Nm) and a 400-volt battery with a capacity of 73.6 kWh, which can be fully charged enough for 700 km on the CLTC cycle. The basic electric sedan accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.28 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h.
The average Xiaomi SU7 Pro for 245,900 yuan (3.14 million rubles) is also single-engine (299 hp, 400 Nm), but it already has an 800-volt battery with a capacity of 94.3 kWh, the power reserve on one charge is 830 km. The SU7 Pro reaches the first “hundred” in 5.7 seconds, the maximum speed is 220 km/h.

The top-end Xiaomi SU7 Max for 299,900 yuan (3.83 million rubles) is dual-engine and all-wheel drive, the front electric motor produces 299 hp. and 338 Nm, rear — 374 hp. and 500 Nm, maximum total output — 673 hp. and 838 Nm. The twin-engine sedan will accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, with a top speed of 265 km/h. The capacity of the 800-volt battery is 101 kWh, the range on one charge is 800 km.
For comparison, let's say that the Tesla Model 3 sedan costs in China from 245,900 yuan, that is, the same as the Xiaomi SU7 Pro. For a basic single-engine Porsche Taycan in China you need to pay at least 898,000 yuan (11.45 million rubles), and an all-wheel drive dual-engine Porsche Taycan Turbo, which is closest in characteristics to the Xiaomi SU7 Max, costs from 1,518,000 yuan (19.35 million rubles) . Porsche does not have its own production in China — hence the crazy prices. It is clear that in China the Xiaomi SU7 will compete mainly with local counterparts and the Tesla Model 3, but if it gets to Europe, the Porsche electric sedan will have a hard time.
