SIRIUS, March 26 .Russian scientists cannot be excluded from the International Experimental Thermonuclear Reactor (ITER) project, as was the case with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), this is not provided for in the agreement, said ITER stakeholder relations manager Katia Rauhansalo.
Earlier, CERN official representative Arnaud Marsollier said that the organization would cease cooperation with approximately 500 specialists with connections to Russia as of November 30 this year.
«CERN is not ITER. «ITER has 7 partners included in the agreement, which does not provide for any conditions for excluding partners. We continue to work with Russia… This is not what is provided for in ITER or can happen at all,» Rauhansalo said on the sidelines of Atomexpo, responding to the corresponding question
She added that Russia is an important member of the project, making a huge contribution to its development.
«The ITER project greatly needs this contribution from Russia… Russia is actively supplying everything (to including equipment — ed.), which is needed for the project now and is being collected in the future,” Rauhansalo emphasized.
Russian Foreign Ministry official representative Maria Zakharova previously stated that CERN’s decision to suspend cooperation with Russia is politicized and absolutely unacceptable, military -the political situation in the world should not undermine progress in the field of scientific research.
