MOSCOW, April 1, Alena Sulizova. President of the Cycling Federation Russia (FVSR) Vyacheslav Ekimov, commenting on the words of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo that the French people would not be happy with Russian athletes, said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should respond to these statements.
Previously, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, visited Kyiv, where she talked with local athletes, the head of the Olympic Committee of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit, as well as the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko. During the conversation, she told the athletes that Paris would greet them as heroes, they would feel at home, while the Russians and Belarusians would not be welcome at the Games.
““I heard this statement yesterday from the mayor of Paris. The point is that these are the Olympic Games – they are always held in a capsule, including all security measures. I don’t think that athletes there can be free to go into the city. It’s hard to say about any risks. Of course, it’s worth paying attention to such a statement. There’s still time. The IOC, of course, must react. I think it’s too early to take a stand here, let off all the steam, there’s still time, it’s always out of this game You can go out,” Ekimov said.
The Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
