The earthquake that occurred near New York interrupted a meeting of the UN Security Council. It just took place in the famous New York headquarters building of the organization.

Diplomats along with journalists in the hall felt the tremors at approximately 10:20 a.m. local time (5:20 p.m. Moscow time). Some of them were seriously frightened; at the moment of unpleasant tremors, exclamations of “What is this?!” were heard in the hall.

The meeting had to be interrupted for a few moments, but then the diplomats pulled themselves together and began their duties .

Seismologists have confirmed that an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred near New York.
