British workshop Theon Design, which makes high-end restomods based on the 964 generation Porsche 911, which was produced between 1989 and 1994, introduced its first model with a removable roof — Theon GBR003 Targa. Manufacturing one such machine takes 18 months.
Theon Design was founded in 2016 by automotive enthusiast and entrepreneur Adam Hawley and is headquartered on the outskirts of Oxfordshire between Deddington and the village of Clifton. Theon Design is considered one of the world's top specialists in restoming classic Porsche 911s, along with companies such as Singer, Sportec, Paul Stephens, Gunther Werks and KAMManufaktur. Theon Design has earned its reputation thanks to its high level of engineering, attention to detail and respect for the original design of the classic Porsche 911.

Theon GBR003 Targa is the first restomod from Theon Design with a removable roof; previously, the British workshop only modified the coupe. Working with targa became a new challenge for Theon Design masters, since the original body of the Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Targa has insufficient rigidity by modern standards. The approaches to strengthening the body applied to the coupe turned out to be insufficiently effective for the Targa, so original reinforcements were developed for the Targa: they are mounted in the bottom area, have complex geometry and a complex structure (a combination of carbon fiber and Nomex honeycomb panels). Before their installation, the original body, of course, was completely disassembled and restored.

Essentially, only the reinforced frame of the body remains from the donor car in the restomod; everything else is new, including elegant exterior mirrors and lighting equipment. Most of the exterior body panels are made of carbon fiber, only the doors remain steel. The completely redesigned suspension features TracTive ACE adjustable shock struts, tuned correctly for this model.

The steering received a new electro-hydraulic power steering with carefully adjusted feedback. The powerful disc brakes are taken from the 993-generation Porsche 911 RS. The 18-inch Fuchs alloy wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. All electrical equipment is new, aerospace grade. The stock air conditioning system has been replaced with a modern, lighter and more efficient one. The curb weight of Theon GBR003 Targa is 1228 kg (60 kg more than a similar coupe), weight distribution is 48:52 in favor of the rear axle.

The cabin retains the analogue aesthetic of the original model, but all the elements are new, including Theon Design's own seats, upholstered in licorice-colored leather. Subwoofers from the powerful Focal audio system are integrated into the rear seat cushions and are controlled by the Pioneer P99RS head unit, which has a very strict design that fits well with the overall interior style of the classic Porsche 911. Under the soft leather trim of the front panel, central tunnel and sills are durable load-bearing parts made of carbon fiber. The removable fabric roof is newly designed, it is stored in a cover in the trunk and does not take up much space.
The Theon GBR003 Targa is powered by a comprehensively modified 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six with air cooling, its maximum output is 409 hp. at 7100 rpm and 434 Nm at 5500 rpm. The custom sports exhaust system is equipped with bypass valves — they are controlled both manually and automatically when the set speed threshold is reached and allow you to enjoy the unmuffled roar of the engine on deserted sections of the road. The 6-speed MPC from the 993 generation Porsche 911 RS sends all the power to the rear wheels.

Each copy of Theon GBR003 Targa is made taking into account the individual wishes of the client in terms of decor and technology, the minimum price is 415,000 pounds sterling excluding taxes and the cost of the donor car.
