MOSCOW, April 9 Acting President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Pedro Rocha and his predecessor Luis Rubiales will testify in court over possible corruption in the organization, Marca reports.
According to the source, Rubiales will testify in the court of the city of Majadahonda as a suspect, the hearing will be held on April 29. Rocha will testify as a witness on April 12.
The court is investigating possible irregularities in the RFEF's contracts over the past five years when Rubiales headed the federation.
During the award ceremony for the winners of the World Cup, which took place in Australia and New Zealand, on August 20, 2023, Rubiales hugged and kissed national team player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips. In September, the Spanish National Court opened criminal proceedings against Rubiales, who resigned as president of the RFEF. The International Football Federation (FIFA) suspended him from football activities for three years.
In March, the Central Operations Unit of the Spanish Civil Guard conducted searches at the RFEF headquarters and Rubiales' house, and later the prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant for the former head of the RFEF. On April 3, the Civil Guard detained Rubiales at the airport after his return to Spain from the Dominican Republic. He was later released from custody.
