Audi, following the restyled A3 family of compact cars, introduced the S3 sports sedan and hatchback: they have updated not only the design, but also technical stuffing.
The cosmetic updates of the Audi S3 are approximately the same as those of the less powerful Audi A3, but adjusted for a sporty character: a new front bumper with enlarged side air ducts and silver squiggles along the edges, a new front spoiler on two legs, a new radiator grille with a larger mesh and L-shaped silver inserts, a new rear bumper with less poorly made fake meshes and L-shaped silver inserts, new LED headlights and lights (in the headlights you can now change the pattern of daytime running lights), new wheel design (18 or 19 inches) .

In the cabin, the design of the ventilation system deflectors and the automatic transmission selector has been updated — instead of a vertical “flash drive,” a large horizontal button is now used. The lighting design and quality of lighting have been improved: storage niches, cup holders and door cards are illuminated — the light pours through laser-perforated fabric inserts. The steering wheel has new metallic manual gear shift paddles. The top-end audio system is now supplied by Sonos, not Bang & Olufsen.

There are also a lot of changes in technology. First of all, the output of the EA888 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine has been increased: it was 310 hp. and 400 Nm, became 333 hp. and 420 Nm. The transmission is only a 7-speed automatic S tronic type DCT (with two clutches), it has received new firmware and now provides a faster start and faster gear changes. The all-wheel drive system is now the same as that of the top version of the Audi RS 3, that is, with two individual clutches in the drive of the rear wheels. Acceleration time to 100 km/h has been reduced from 4.8 to 4.7 seconds, top speed is still limited to 250 km/h.

To the five already known driving profiles auto, comfort, dynamic, individual efficiency, the sharpest dynamic plus has been added: in it, the maximum possible power is supplied to the rear axle, and the stabilization system and clutches are configured in such a way as to give the car oversteer. In addition, in the dynamic plus mode, the engine idle speed rises from 1100 to 1300 rpm, reactions to the gas pedal become sharper, and the automatic transmission tries to keep the engine at high speeds longer.

In order to increase the camber angle of the wheels, new wishbones and bearings have been installed in the suspension of the updated Audi S3, the steering mechanism has been reconfigured and now provides a clearer zero, as a result, the car’s handling has become more accurate. The ground clearance of the Audi S3 is still 15 mm less than that of the standard Audi A3, and adaptive shock absorbers are available at an additional cost. The updated brakes have become more efficient: the diameter of the front drilled discs has been increased by 34 mm to 357 mm, they are equipped with new two-piston calipers with larger pads.

The updated Audi S3 will go on sale in the European market in the coming months. Prices have increased as expected: if the pre-restyling Audi S3 cost from 51,400 euros, now the minimum price is 55,600 euros.
