The Italian brand Alfa Romeo, owned by Stellantis Corporation, presented its new junior model — the Milano subcompact crossover, it is offered with electric and hybrid power plants to choose from.
Alfa Romeo Milano is currently the coolest offspring of the French modular platform CMP (Common Modular Platform), to which all-wheel drive has finally been “attached”. The name Milano is not new for Alfa: in the 80s of the last century it was worn by the North American version of the Alfa Romeo 75 sedan. The overall length of the Milano crossover is 4.17 m, width — 1.78 m, height — 1.5 m, wheelbase — 2.56 m.
Back in January, at the announcement stage, it became known that Alfa Romeo developers and testers took a particularly careful approach to fine-tuning the Milano chassis — they say, the fans will squeal with delight.

The older electric version is called Elettrica Veloce and is positioned as a sports one: the power of the electric motor is increased to 240 hp, a Torsen limited-slip differential is installed between the front wheels, ground clearance is reduced by 25 mm, stiffer anti-roll bars are used in the suspension, and anti-roll bars are installed on the front axle. powerful 380 mm disc brakes with four-piston calipers, and the steering is one of the sharpest in the class, with a gear ratio of 14.6. Dynamic characteristics have not yet been published.

The Milano will not have purely “hydrocarbon” versions; petrolheads will be addressed to the hybrid version of the Ibrida in combination with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Ibrida power plant is well known to us from other junior Stellantis models — for example, from the Opel Corsa hybrid hatchback. The role of the internal combustion engine here is played by a third-generation 1.2-liter PureTech petrol turbo engine with a power of 136 hp. A hybrid automatic 6-speed e-DCS6 transmission with two clutches is attached to the internal combustion engine; a 48-volt electric motor with a power of 28.5 hp is integrated into its housing. The buffer lithium-ion battery is located under the driver's seat; it cannot be charged from an external source, but the sufficiently large capacity of this battery allows the car to drive exclusively on electric power for a short time.

The all-wheel drive version of the Ibrida Q4 is designed in the same way as the front-wheel drive, only supplemented with a second 28.5-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. The rear electric motor mainly acts as an auxiliary motor and is activated at the command of the electronics when necessary (for example, during a sudden start or slipping of the front wheels), but at speeds of up to 30 km/h, forced permanent all-wheel drive can be activated. It is clear that you cannot count on sporty dynamics with a 136-horsepower gasoline engine, but in everyday life and on slippery roads, the Ibrida Q4 version will be very practical.

You can judge the design of the Alfa Romeo Milano from the photographs: the first reviews on the Internet indicate that the new product is a success in terms of aesthetics. For the crossover, there are two design options for the brand shield on the front end — Leggenda (traditional fine mesh and the old-fashioned Alfa Romeo inscription on it) and Progresso (the Alfa Romeo logo is enlarged here, with a coarse mesh behind it). The maximum wheel size is 20 inches.

The Milano's interior is also unlikely to disappoint Alfa Romeo fans: the 10.25-inch instrument screen here is stylized as two branded wells and can show arrow dials. The 10.25-inch multimedia screen with ChatGPT artificial intelligence implanted into it is turned towards the driver and creates the feeling of a cockpit. The side air ducts on the front panel have the traditional Alfa Romeo round shape. Sabelt front sports seats with integral headrests and powerful lateral support would not be a shame to install in a supercar. Electric versions have a main trunk with a volume of 400 liters and a small trunk in the front (volume not specified), where it is convenient to store the charging cable. The equipment is promised to be rich, up to the second level autopilot according to the SAE classification.
Orders for Alfa Romeo Milano in the debut version of Speciale are already accepted: the front-wheel drive hybrid version of Ibrida costs from 29,900 euros, the junior electric version of Elettrica — from 39,900 euros. The Ibrida Q4 and Elettrica Veloce versions will go on sale later this year. Alfa Romeo Milano will be produced at the Stellantis plant in the Polish city of Tychy, where the Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger cross-platform crossovers are also produced. Stellantis expects that, starting next year, the Milano crossover will account for about 40% of Alfa Romeo's annual sales volume and that it will become the main driver of growth for the brand in the European market.
