MOSCOW, April 4The Bolshoi Theater presents on the Historical Stage the premiere of Leonid Lavrovsky's legendary 1946 ballet “Romeo and Juliet”, the author of the restored version was the choreographer's son, People's Artist of the USSR Mikhail Lavrovsky, the theater's press service reported.

The ballet “Romeo and Juliet” to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, choreographed by Leonid Lavrovsky and designed by Peter Williams, with short interruptions, remained in the repertoire of the Bolshoi Theater for almost five decades.
This ballet was included in the tour program Bolshoi Theater in London. Then the main role was performed by Galina Ulanova, and Romeo is now People's Artist of the USSR, choreographer and teacher Mikhail Lavrovsky.
English choreographers showed great interest in the big story ballet, which in many ways changed the direction of world ballet.

Such an emotional load, such a spiritual impulse, such a sincere performance that exists in the Russian theater cannot be found anywhere in the world. We are the best in this art and must take care of it,” Lavrovsky emphasized. 
Shakespeare's great dramaturgy, combined with Prokofiev's unique score, aroused great interest in this ballet. And it’s rare that any of the Russian and foreign choreographers didn’t want to try to compose their own version.
Mikhail Lavrovsky had already staged his father’s ballet – he revived it in theaters in Russia and abroad.
According to the choreographer, artists, through their attitude, through plasticity, must convey everything that music brings: impulse, struggle, desire and, of course, love.
“I think our young artists are very good guys and will cope with this. Maybe not everything will be perfect right away, but they will grow. I hope that everything will work out for us,” Lavrovsky noted.
The main roles are performed by famous soloists of the Bolshoi Ballet – prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, who has already danced in this performance at the Mariinsky Theater, Artemy Belyakov, Ekaterina Krysanova and Vladislav Lantratov, as well as very young artists Elizaveta Kokoreva and Daniil Potaptsev, for whom This will be not only a premiere, but also a personal debut.
Behind the conductor's stand is Anton Grishanin, the designer for the renewal of Peter Williams' scenery is Sergei Grachev, the costume designer is Tatyana Noginova.
Premiere screenings will take place on April 4, 5, 6 (at 12:00 and 19:00) and April 7.
