MOSCOW, April 5 . In Paris, at the Gaveau Hall, on April 4, a concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Nabucco” took place, with Spanish tenor Placido Domingo and Russian soprano Olga Maslova performing in the main roles, the press service of the Khibla Gerzmava Vocalists and Accompanists Competition reported.
“The Parisian audience was incredibly accepting! Since Domingo was performing, the audience came not only from France, but also from different countries. The hall was packed. The audience applauded warmly after each significant number, and at the end there was a long standing ovation. <…> This is not the first time I have performed in Europe and I know that it is very difficult to get the audience to stand up. We did it! It was an indescribable delight,» Maslova herself said.
International competition vocalists and accompanists Khibla Gerzmava is supported by the Khibla Gerzmava Charitable Foundation and the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
As the singer noted, art reigned that evening, there was “no politics, only Verdi’s music.”
She also shared her impressions of working with Domingo, noting his modesty and respect for all participants in the project.
«A living legend. <…> And the way he supported us, young artists (our cast was really very young), what compliments he bestowed. Of course, it is a huge responsibility to sing in front of him,» the soprano admitted.
Olga Maslova is a soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, winner of the first prize at the Khibla Gerzmava Vocalists and Accompanists Competition and other international musical competitions.
