Ford has improved the technical features of its Mustang Mach-E electric crossover — coupled with a recent noticeable price reduction, this should make the already middle-aged model more attractive to consumers.
The Mustang Mach-E made its world premiere in the fall of 2019 and became Ford's first production electric crossover; it is based on the GE1 platform, which is a heavily redesigned “hydrocarbon” C2 platform from the current Ford Focus. Due to the fact that the GE1 platform is a conversion platform, other new Ford products did not receive it, and the Mustang Mach-E was quite expensive to produce. The main volume of production of the Mustang Mach-E is provided by the Mexican Ford plant in the city of Cuautitlan-Iscagli; in 2021, production of the electric crossover was also established in China at the Changan Ford joint venture in Chongqing.

The home, American market greeted the Ford Mustang Mach-E quite favorably and became the main one for this model: last year, sales of the Mustang Mach-E in the United States amounted to 40,771 units, which is 3.3% more than the result of 2022 (Ford data). However, Ford was counting on larger production runs; in February of this year, unprecedented discounts of about $8,000 were announced on the Mustang Mach-E in the United States, which had an immediate effect: the Mustang Mach-E finished the first quarter of 2024 with a result of 9,589 sold copies (+77% compared to January-March 2023).
In Europe in 2023, sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E decreased by 16% to 21,295 units. (data from JATO Dynamics), but in the first two months of this year there was an increase of 39% to 2499 units sold — this is also the result of discounts.
But in China, the electric Mustang is doing poorly: 2,062 units were sold last year, which is 73.5% less than sales in 2022 (CAAM data); in the first quarter of 2024, demand fell by 66.6% to 124 units. . In general, we can say that the Chinese market has lost the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but it will still compete for the American and European markets with the help of an update from the developers.

The Mustang Mach-E received a new rear electric motor of Ford's own design; it is lighter, more compact and more energy efficient than the previous one with the same power, while it gives up to 135 Nm increase in maximum torque (specific indicators depend on the specific modification). New algorithms for controlling the power plant in combination with a new engine gave up to 32 km of additional range on a single charge and reduced battery charging time by several minutes.
The longest-range rear-wheel drive version Extended Range RWD (294 l .s., 525 Nm) with a battery with a capacity of 91 kWh can now travel 515 km on a single charge according to the EPA cycle (this figure has not yet been confirmed by certification; before the update it was 483 km).

Particular attention during the update was paid to the twin-engine sports version of the GT: it now by default has sports front seats, MagneRide adaptive shock absorbers and Brembo front brake calipers (previously you had to pay extra for all this). The maximum total output of the GT version of the power plant is the same 487 hp. and 813 Nm, but with the new Performance Upgrade option the maximum torque increases to 949 Nm. The standard Mustang Mach-E GT accelerates to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) in 3.8 seconds, with the Performance Upgrade option in 3.3 seconds. A full charge of the 91 kWh battery should be enough for 450 km of EPA cycle range (before the update it was 435 km).

At the top of the range is the Rally version, unveiled last fall at the Munich Motor Show: it now has the same powertrain as the Mustang Mach-E GT with the Performance Upgrade option, but due to design features the Rally version is slightly slower and reaches 60 mph in 3.4 s. The range on one charge is 426 km according to the EPA cycle. The design features, we recall, are increased ground clearance by 20 mm to 150 mm, a suspension tuned for driving on gravel, protective shields under the bottom, a special power plant control program, a unique aerodynamic body kit and other cosmetic details.
The updated Mustang Mach-E Rally costs in the USA from $59,995 (hereinafter the price does not take into account delivery costs of $1,895), Mustang Mach-E GT — from $53,995, for the Performance Upgrade you need to pay an additional $995.
The base Ford Mustang Mach-E in Select trim with one rear electric motor (268 liters .s., 525 Nm) and a battery with a capacity of 72 kWh now costs from $39,995, the range on one charge is 402 km according to the EPA cycle (before the update it was 370 km).
Ford cosmetic updates The Mustang Mach-E was not received as part of the current update. The green car in the photos has the optional Bronze Appearance Package, introduced back in January, which costs $1,995.
