MOSCOW, April 13Russia has developed a neural network that is capable of identifying terrorists and criminals among migrant workers, the press service of the Smart Engines company reported.
“The Russian company Smart Engines has created a universal complex that will help prevent cases of illegal migration, as well as terrorist attacks. The AI-based system automatically checks all documents of citizens of CIS countries for authenticity, and then checks the photo in the document with the photo of the bearer. The solution works without cross-border data transmission and can be installed both in Russia and abroad,” the press service noted. 
As the company noted, this hardware and software complex simultaneously solves several key problems: recognizes data from all identification documents of a foreign citizen (passport, visa, ID card, work permit, migration card and others), checks the document for authenticity and reality in three ranges – optical, ultraviolet, infrared.
In addition, artificial intelligence checks the originality and security elements of the document form – security fluorescent fibers, ink, special printing paper, identifies mechanical interventions in the document itself – data corrections, re-gluing and reprinting, as well as the validity of the document. 
The final stage of verification is carried out thanks to non-biometric face matching technology. Using the new organization system, you can compare a photograph from a document and the face of the person presenting this document in less than a second.
“The neural network is trained to compare faces and give an assessment of how similar the facial images are to each other. This process is very similar to the traditional comparison of faces “by eye” – with the only difference that this is done not by a person, but by a machine. With this software, we were able to implement our approach “to artificial intelligence. It is based on the fact that AI should increase labor productivity, quality and safety. The created complex allows you to check a document in seconds and make sure that the document is presented by its true owner,” said Vladimir Arlazarov, CEO of Smart Engines. 
The company was founded in 2016 by scientists with 25 years of experience in the field of character recognition, image recognition and document processing. The company's software products such as Smart ID Engine, Smart Code Engine and Smart Document Engine are used by 10 out of 13 systemically important credit institutions in Russia – Alfa-Bank, VTB, Gazprombank, MKB, Otkritie Bank, Promsvyazbank, Raiffeisenbank, Rosbank, Sovcombank and ” Tinkoff”.
In addition, Smart Engines solutions are used when selling tickets at Russian Railways ticket offices, at automatic passport control in Sheremetyevo, when registering self-employed people in the Federal Tax Service “My Tax” application, and in other organizations and projects.
