AFP journalists asked Dmitry Peskov to comment arrest of the villa of entrepreneur Arthur Ocheretny, the current husband of the ex-wife of Russian President Lyudmila Putina, after a complaint from the French branch of Transparency International (an activity recognized as undesirable in Russia), which demanded check the origin of the funds spent on the purchase of the villa.
Dmitry Peskov first stated that issues related to the private property of Russian citizens are not the prerogative of the Kremlin. However, then he added that any encroachment on private property is a priori illegal.
“Thus, the French authorities are undermining the foundations of their legal system,” the Kremlin speaker emphasized.
Ocheretny’s Villa is a mansion in art deco style on the shores of the Bay of Biscay.
Since 2022, the property has been abandoned.
