Scientists from the Siberian Federal District gathered at Tomsk State University at the conference “Science without Borders. Siberia accepts the Challenge.” The central theme of the event was the “Challenge” award — it is awarded for fundamental breakthroughs, ideas and inventions in five categories, covering the entire spectrum of future technologies. The conference was organized by Tomsk State University and the Foundation for the Development of Scientific and Cultural Relations “Challenge”. The event was supported by the University Consortium of Big Data Researchers.

“In fact, you and I are witnessing the emergence of something new in Russia as a tool for supporting and popularizing science,” said Eduard Galazhinsky at the opening of the conference.—This is a kind of Russian “Oscar” of science, and the prestige of this award is very high.”
Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Challenge Prize, Head of the Scientific Group «Quantum Information Technologies» of the Russian Quantum Center, Director of the Institute of Physics and Quantum Engineering at MISIS University Alexey Fedorov noted that for the organizers of the Challenge Prize it is very important to talk about this award on platforms that are leaders in science, knowledge and technology, which are both TSU and the entire Tomsk region.

The co-founder of the Challenge fund and award is Gazprombank. Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprombank, TSU graduate Dmitry Sauers spoke at the plenary part of the conference about the formats of support for scientists from the bank.
“Gazprombank has extensive experience and unique competencies that allow us to evaluate breakthrough technologies and scientific projects of the future, and identify promising teams and scientists at an early stage. In order to create a knowledge economy, it is necessary to ensure the continuous transfer of scientific inventions into new technologies. The “Challenge” Prize has become a way to declare that science is important and in demand by the state, society and business,” emphasized Dmitry Sauers.
Also accepted at the conference participation of the Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region for Scientific and Technological Development Lyudmila Ogorodova and the 2023 Challenge Prize laureate Ilya Semerikov.
The National Prize in the field of future technologies was established and organized by the Foundation for the Development of Scientific and Cultural Relations “Challenge” together with Gazprombank. The partners of the award are the state corporation Rosatom, the Roscongress Foundation, with the support of the Moscow government. The Challenge Prize is timed to coincide with the Decade of Science and Technology announced in 2022 and is designed to recognize breakthrough ideas and inventions that are changing the landscape of modern science and the lives of every person.
