MOSCOW, 22 AprIn Russia, they are creating an electronic reconnaissance (ER) and electronic warfare (EW) vehicle based on the Triton amphibious vehicle, a participant in the cooperation on this project, the developer of the Volnorez system Stanislav (full name is not given for security reasons), said in an interview.
«We are making it (the electronic warfare vehicle — ed.) on the basis of the amphibious vehicle «Triton», a prototype of which is being made «based on» the LuAZ chassis (Lutsk Automobile Plant — ed.). The complex will be installed on the «Triton» an expanded «Breakwater», which will conduct not only radio jamming, but also electronic reconnaissance,» he said.
The agency’s interlocutor explained that the LuAZ chassis was taken as a prototype, since it is a “survivable”, cross-country vehicle, a multi-purpose amphibian and front-line transport.
According to him, installing electronic warfare and electronic warfare systems on such a chassis will allow monitoring of any sectors of the front, covering advancing units, evacuation groups, rotation areas, and so on, at the very front edge. In the future, this electronic warfare vehicle can also become a carrier of a group of FPV drones.
At the same time, compared to the original car, the LuAZ «Triton» will have a new engine and transmission.
Earlier, the general director of the Argo LLC enterprise, Konstantin Bagdasarov, said that his company was creating the Triton all-terrain amphibious vehicle to cross water obstacles and create bridgeheads in the special operation zone.
Speaking about the relevance of this development, Bagdasarov noted that many sections of the defense line of the Russian Armed Forces in the special operation zone run along water barriers, which are a natural obstacle to the offensive actions of troops and in the future they will need to be overcome.
The “premiere” of the finished vehicle is planned in August at the Army-2024 forum in Kubinka near Moscow.
The Volnorez electronic warfare system was first presented at the Army-2023 military-technical forum. It is made in the form factor of a small-sized (length — 484 millimeters, weight — 13 kilograms) cone, which is installed with magnetic Velcro on any military (tanks, armored personnel carriers, boats, etc.) and civilian equipment.
The key feature of this complex is its modularity — the “Breakwater” contains those frequencies that are necessary to suppress enemy FPV drones on a specific section of the front in real time. Breakwater operators install new “cones” on their vehicles, thereby modifying their electronic warfare system to meet specific current threats.
