On Sunday, Real Madrid ended the championship intrigue in Spanish La Liga: in the match of the 32nd round of the national championship, the “cream” won a major victory over the second-placed “Barcelona” and broke away even further from the Catalans. A tense confrontation, in which the “royal club” had to fight back twice, ended with a decisive goal in the 91st minute by Englishman Jude Bellingham.
The gap between first and second places in the standings is now 11 points. It seems unrealistic to win back such a handicap in six rounds.
The most discussed episode of El Clasico was Andrei Lunin's save in the 28th minute. The Ukrainian goalkeeper of Real Madrid reacted to Lamin Yamal's shot and hit the ball… However, at first it seemed that the ball had completely crossed the goal line. We had to use the video assistant referee (VAR) system, and after a long pause, referee Cesar Soto Grado still did not count the goal.

There was already a similar precedent: at the beginning of the year, the disciplinary council of the Belgian championship decided to replay the December match between Anderlecht and Genk due to a canceled penalty kick for the visitors (the referees did not count the goal because the Genk player ran into the penalty area early, but it turned out that that before that the opponent crossed the line).
And today the Spanish Football Federation published a discussion of the episode by the refereeing team during El Clasico. From the conversation it becomes clear that the referees became hostages of the situation: none of the replay angles could give an understanding of whether the ball had completely crossed the goal line or not (according to the rules of football, if the ball “touches” the line by even a millimeter, the goal is not counted ).
