The opening ceremony of the football festival for people with disabilities and limited health (FONBET Steel Will) took place on April 24 on the federal territory of Sirius. On the opening day, a show match in electric wheelchair football was held, in which candidates for the Russian national team in this discipline played.
At the end of the match, the General Director of BC FONBET Sergey Anokhin presented the prizes to the footballers.
Alexey Smertin, head of the project office for sustainable development and social responsibility of the RFU:
— I am glad that the Steel Will festival in Sochi is constantly developing. This year we have many new participants, new teams, new regions and even new countries, and at the same time I see many familiar faces – this means that adaptive football unites more and more people, and this is exactly what we are aiming for at the RFU we strive. I am grateful to everyone who organizes and supports Steel Will. Interest in the festival and the tournament as a whole is growing, and this is our common success. I wish the festival to give many positive emotions, bright moments and unforgettable impressions to all participants.
“Will of Steel” – the first tournament in the world to unite football players from so many disability categories. The competition not only popularizes football among people with disabilities, but is an important means of social and physical rehabilitation and integration of football players with disabilities into modern society. The Steel Will tournaments are being held for the third year in a row; in 2023, 2.4 thousand people took part in them.
