The Friendship Games will be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to 29, the BRICS Games – June 11-24 in Kazan. In 2022, Karjakin was disqualified for six months by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for publicly supporting the CBO, which is why he missed the candidates tournament for the world crown. The grandmaster refused to compete at international competitions in a neutral status, emphasizing that he would only play under the Russian flag.
