It was expected that the premiere of the first electric model of the Lynk & Co, owned by the Geely holding, will take place at the Beijing Motor Show, but it is not yet ready and is undergoing development tests on the serpentines of the Huangshan mountain range in the Chinese province of Anhui. However, Deputy CEO of Lynk & Co Flynn Chen promised that the “electric train” will be presented in the first half of this year and shared its teaser images.
Brand Lynk & Co was launched in 2016 as a joint brainchild of Geely and Volvo, initially it was aimed at Europe, but failed to take off here, the main market for Lynk & Co became its native China, and until last year sales were sluggish. In 2023, the global car market began to experience a decline in demand for electric vehicles, which was especially acute in China, and this is where the Lynk & Co, which currently consists only of gasoline and hybrid models, turned out to be very useful: due to hybrids, sales went up sharply; by the end of 2023, the Lynk & Co, according to the Geely report, sold 220,250 cars in the world (+22% compared to sales in 2022). The result of the first quarter of 2024 is even more impressive: 61,056 cars were sold (+64%). The main consumer of Lynk & Co remains China: in January-March of this year, according to CAAM, their sales in their homeland amounted to 56,556 units. (+60%).
Now Lynk & There are eight models with indexes 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09. The most recent in the range are the mid-size sedan Lynk & Co 07 and crossover Lynk & Co 08, they are offered exclusively with plug-in hybrid powertrains, but the next, ninth model will be an electric car, which Flynn Chen announced as Lynk & Co Zero (commercial name may be different).
Judging by the teasers, Lynk & Co Zero is a fairly large sedan or liftback with an overall length of about 5 m. It is known that it is based on an elite 800-volt version of the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) modular platform, like the updated Zeekr 001 and top-end “electric trains” of other Geely-owned vehicles brands, including Lotus, Polestar and Volvo.
Extreme power from Lynk & Co Zero is probably not worth waiting for, since in the internal corporate hierarchy of the Geely holding the Lynk & Co is positioned lower than Zeekr, Polestar, Volvo and even more so Lotus, but the handling will be at its best — the experience of Lynk & Co in TCR Touring Car, iron on Lynk & Co Zero mountain serpentines will be a pleasure.
It is expected that Lynk & Co Zero will cost in the range from 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (from 2.53 million to 3.79 million rubles translated at the current exchange rate), that is, 15-25% less than Zeekr 001. Lynk follows Zero & There will also be other electric models, but the brand is definitely not going to part with hybrids yet — they are the ones that feed it now.
