MOSCOW, April 25Director Sergei Ursulyak received the prize of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) for his contribution to world cinema, the correspondent reports.
The Moscow International Film Festival in 2024 was held from April 19 to 26.
““A wonderful director and a wonderful man,” said MIFF President Nikita Mikhalkov, presenting the prize to Ursulyak.
Sergey Ursulyak is a Russian director and screenwriter, born in 1958 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. He graduated from the acting department of the Theater School (now the Institute) named after B.V. Shchukin (workshop of Evgeny Simonov), in 1993 – Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors (workshop of Vladimir Motyl). Ursulyak directed the films and TV series «Poirot's Failure» (2002), «The Long Farewell» (2004), «Liquidation» (2007), «Isaev» (2009), «Life and Fate» (2012), «Quiet Don» ( 2015), «Bad Weather» (2018), «Odessa Steamship» (2019), «Righteous» (2022).
MIFF is one of the oldest festivals in the world; it was first held in In 1935, the chairman of the jury was director Sergei Eisenstein. Since 1959, the festival began to be held regularly. Over the past 20 years, the festival jury has been headed by the world's largest filmmakers, including Richard Gere, Theo Angelopoulos, Alan Parker, Luc Besson, Kim Ki-duk.
