MOSCOW, June 3 The Federation Council Committee on International Affairs supported the denunciation of the agreement with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on information and cultural centers, a source in parliament said.
The agency's interlocutor answered affirmatively to the corresponding question.
“To denounce the agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the establishment and conditions of operation of information and cultural centers, signed in Moscow on February 27, 1998,” the text of the law says.
The explanatory note notes that the agreement provided for the creation of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Kyiv, which was opened in 2007 and was located in the premises on a lease basis. After 2014, it operated in extremely difficult conditions, was attacked by nationalist groups, and in 2021, the RCSC was forced to completely curtail its work.
«In accordance with Article 2 of the agreement, the centers must conduct their activities under the leadership of the relevant heads of diplomatic missions. After Ukraine breaks off diplomatic relations with Russia, the implementation of such leadership is virtually impossible,» the document says .
