The American company is preparing a major update for its flagship SUV, as evidenced by fresh spy photos of test samples. What will it be like?
The full-size Expedition SUV first appeared in Ford's lineup in 1996, becoming the successor to the then-obsolete two-door Bronco model. Today, the fourth generation of the SUV is on the assembly line, which premiered at the beginning of 2017. Four and a half years later, the model received a relatively light restyling, and now Ford is preparing a very significant update for its flagship.

Test samples captured by spy photographers show off a completely new front end: unlike the current model, it will be made vertical, making it more similar to the brand's pickup trucks. Here, there are two-tier headlight blocks of the main light, built into the radiator grille, and they are framed by C-shaped strips of LED running lights, which also serve as direction indicators. What’s unusual for a restyling is that the SUV will also be noticeably updated on the side; the rear side windows will become wider and “absorb” the body-colored pillars behind the rear doors, making the side glazing visually unified. In addition, the window sill molding will change slightly, which now widens slightly closer to the lanterns. The rear is also completely new, although here — without any special revelations, the design is made in the traditional style of large American SUVs. The Expedition will receive new lights with a fairly simple shape, a new bumper trim, and the license plate niche will move a little higher. In addition, the SUV is depicted with new design wheels.

The current Ford Expedition is equipped with a single twin-turbo engine V6 EcoBoost with a volume of 3.5 liters, which produces 446 hp. power and 691 Nm of torque. There is no confirmed information about the contents of the restyled model yet, but there is a possibility that it will receive a hybrid modification.
