After almost two years of silence, the young Swiss company Piech Automotive told how things are going with its debut model — the electric coupe Piech GT with landing formula 2+2, first shown in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show (then called Piech Mark Zero), but not yet put into mass production. The company did not fulfill the task of bringing the car to the market in 2024; the production car will appear only in 2028, because it had to be almost completely redone…
The Piech Automotive company was founded in 2017 by entrepreneur Rea Stark Rajic and Tony Piech, the son of the legendary Ferdinand Piech, creator of the Volkswagen empire and grandson of Ferdinand Porsche (through his daughter Louise, who married the Austrian lawyer Anton Piech). The concept of the debut Piech GT model was presented in 2019 as an electric analogue of the Porsche 911, that is, as a sports car with a timeless design and periodically updated technical content. The technical concept of the Piech GT has changed several times already, and now the design has suddenly been updated — it has become much more angular and, unfortunately, less distinctive, simultaneously reminiscent of sports cars from Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lotus and Ferrari.
1/2 2/2 >The updated design of the Piech GT in the form of a layout and renderings was presented in Stuttgart (Germany) to selected Western journalists (we, in particular, used information from the German magazine auto motor und sport and the American Car and Driver), but none of them reported (perhaps about the request company), why the project stalled so badly and why the launch into production was postponed for four years. There was no official press release at the time of our publication.
Now the Piech Automotive company is led by the German Tobias Moers, who joined it in 2022 as head of the development department, and now he holds the position of general director. Before Piech Automotive, Tobias Moers spent two not very successful years at Aston Martin, from where he was fired for being too harsh in his leadership style, and before that he worked for AMG/Mercedes-AMG for a quarter of a century, and from 2013 to 2020 — as CEO.< /p> 1/3 2/3 3/3
It was at Moers’s suggestion that the complete reengineering of the Piech GT began. Potential buyers should be pleased by the fact that the coupe has become much more powerful. The Piech GT is driven by two electric motors mounted on the rear axle, their maximum combined output is 1020 hp. and 1100 Nm (previously they promised “only” 612 hp from three engines and all-wheel drive, but the original Piech Mark Zero concept was dual-engine). The electric motors are not mechanically connected to each other; each has its own two-stage gearbox attached; the operation of the power modules will be synchronized by electronics.
The Piech GT should accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, with a top speed of 300 km/h. The company expects the Piech GT to be able to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6 minutes 55 seconds. The capacity of the 800-volt battery is 90 kW h, its height is only 10 cm, and each cell has individual liquid cooling. The estimated range on a single charge is 500 km according to the WLTP cycle, the maximum charging power is 500 kW.

Overall length of the Piech GT is 4800 mm, width — 2000 mm, height — 1350 mm, wheelbase — 2780 mm. The base of the body is a carbon fiber tub (apparently made with a convertible in mind), to which metal subframes are screwed. After reengineering, the suspension on double wishbones “in a circle” gave way to more complex multi-link structures, using ordinary springs as elastic elements. Standard wheels are 22 inches. The target curb weight of the sports car is 1800 kg. The interior has not yet been revealed, but it is known that it will definitely not be ascetic: electronics and entertainment capabilities will be at the level of the best competitors.

The working prototype of the Piech GT will appear only next year, and the start of production is planned for 2028, the Canadian company Multimatic will be responsible for it — the same one that will assemble the latest Ford Mustang GTD, and previously assembled the Ford GT supercar. Piech Automotive wants to produce and sell 2,000 cars a year, the minimum price will be about 200,000 euros. It’s too early to talk about the next models, but Piech Automotive still has a crossover in its plans. As the model range expands, the company wants to reach a production volume of 7000-8000 cars per year.
