The failed cross-liftback Ford Evos turned into a Mondeo, received a new filling and fell in price

The five-door is now offered as a hybrid. The number of trim levels was reduced to two, but prices also became lower.

Last week Kolesa.ru reported that the Changan Ford joint venture would rename the Ford Evos cross-liftback into Mondeo Sport. Now an official presentation has been held in China, in addition, preliminary prices have been announced.

Let us remind you that the five-door Evos debuted in 2021; it was developed specifically for the Middle Kingdom, and it was initially believed that the model would replace the Mondeo. However, Ford Mondeo was still retained in the local range: the new generation sedan was presented in 2022, it is assembled by the same joint venture. But the liftback failed in the market: during 2022-2024. monthly sales only broke the 800 unit mark a couple of times. The decision to turn Evos into a variant of Mondeo turned out to be quite logical, because they are closely related.

The design of the liftback was not changed, except that the Mondeo inscription now appears on the tailgate. The length of the five-door is 4920 mm versus 4935 mm for the sedan, the wheelbase is the same for both modifications — 2945 mm. The main feature in the salon is the giant display.

If the Evos is a “traditional” model with a single 2.0 EcoBoost petrol turbo-four (238 hp), then the Mondeo Sport is a hybrid. The installation includes a two-liter turbo engine and an electric motor, the total output is 309 hp. The Mondeo sedan's hybrid version appeared last year, and it has a different technology: the installation is based on a 1.5 turbo engine, the total power is 208 hp. The pure petrol four-door can be purchased with 1.5T (190 hp) or 2.0T (254 hp).

The Ford Mondeo Sport cross-liftback is offered in only two trim levels (Evos has four versions), including the “sportier” ST- Line (it’s the one captured in all company photos). In addition to the above-mentioned display, the list of equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, an electric tailgate, heated and ventilated seats, and adaptive cruise control.

The preliminary price of the standard Mondeo Sport is 209,800 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 2.6 million rubles. A liftback with an ST-Line body kit costs 229,800 yuan (about 2.8 million rubles). Ford Evos is still on sale, and it is more expensive: excluding shares, this five-door will cost 225,800 — 259,800 yuan (2.7 million — 3.2 million rubles). Well, the Ford Mondeo sedan now costs from 149,800 yuan (1.8 million rubles).

Meanwhile, the four-door is not a Chinese exclusive — it is also sold in the Middle East, but under the name Taurus . There is no information yet on whether they plan to turn the Ford Taurus into a separate family.
