A new all-electric SUV with a coupe-like body, which could receive a revived Capri name, will debut in a month, on July 10.
The American company Ford and the German concern Volkswagen signed an agreement back in 2020, which provided for the implementation of several joint projects. One of them is the all-electric Ford Explorer crossover, intended for the European market (it is related to the “regular” Explorer only by its name). Let us recall that this SUV was presented in March last year. Its production was established at the facilities of the modernized head “old world” Ford plant in Cologne (Germany).

It has long been known that the European Ford Explorer will have a relative — another crossover intended for the European market, but with a coupe-like body. According to preliminary data, he may get the revived Capri name, although there has been no official confirmation of this. It is worth recalling that one of the most prominent representatives was the sports coupe with this name: the model was produced from 1968 to 1986.
There is only a month left before the premiere of the new Ford crossover: as Automotive News Europe reports, the presentation of the future brother Explorer EV will take place on July 10 this year. However, the company did not confirm the specified debut date. Previously, the company only reported that the cross-coupe would be presented in 2024.
Render of the new crossover Ford for Europe
For now, the manufacturer is keeping the appearance of its new crossover a secret. At the end of last year, photo spies caught a prototype of an SUV with a coupe-like body during tests. These photographs formed the basis for renderings of the Ford Capri (for now we will conditionally call the future electric car that way), created by the designer Kolesa.ru.
It is expected that the production model will have stampings on the hood, a large central air intake, head optics with arcs of running lights and a plug in place of the radiator grille with the brand logo located under a wide strip connecting the headlights. The artist also painted the SUV with traditional exterior mirrors with black housings and regular door handles. The roof is decorated with a “shark fin” antenna, the lights are designed in the form of a single plate running across the entire width of the tailgate with an intermittent luminous bracket.

Like the related “green” Explorer, the Capri is based on the Volkswagen modular MEB platform, which makes them similar, among other things, to the Volkswagen ID.4 crossovers (with a regular body ) and ID.5 (with a coupe-like body).
It is assumed that the new Ford crossover will borrow technology from the European Explorer. Let us remind you that three options are offered for it: the base version has a single 170-horsepower electric motor located on the rear axle, the middle version has an electric motor with a power of 286 hp, and the top version has a dual-motor unit, the total output of which is 340 hp. .
