Volkswagen has completed the design of the ID.2 production hatchback

The Volkswagen brand has a separate all-electric line. The first-born of this “green” family is the five-door hatchback ID.3, which premiered in September 2019 and went on sale in the fall of 2020. Later, the range was expanded to include the ID.4 crossover, its coupe-like version ID.5, as well as the ID electric van. Buzz, liftback and station wagon ID.7. The manufacturer does not plan to stop there: one of the upcoming new products will be the compact hatchback Volkswagen ID.2.

Earlier, there was a rumor on the Internet that the German company decided to postpone the start of production of the new “green” model to 2026 due to insufficiently high demand for electric vehicles (last year, the VW concern had to temporarily shut down several of its factories because of this) and softening environmental standards Euro 7. However, the manufacturer previously denied this information, and now once again confirmed that the Volkswagen ID.2 hatchback will debut at the end of this year and will enter the market in 2025.

The head of the brand's design department, Andreas Mindt, told the British publication Autocar about this. According to him, the development of the exterior of the serial version of the hatch has now been completed. He noted that the design of the future new product turned out “better than the concept”; Unfortunately, he did not provide details about the design of the product version, although it was previously reported that the appearance of the concept is close to the serial one.

Also on the list of distinctive features of the concept are “muscular” wheel arches and large wheels on tires measuring 225/40 R20. According to the dimensions of Volkswagen ID. 2all is close to the fourth generation Golf hatchback: thus, the length of the concept is 4050 mm, width – 1812 mm, height – 1530 mm, and the distance between the axles is 2600 mm. The trunk volume is 490 liters, and with the second row folded it grows to 1330 liters.
