The Deputy Chief of the General Staff will remain in pre-trial detention center

The court refused to release the head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the RF Armed Forces Shamarin from the pre-trial detention center

The Second Western Military District Court confirmed the decision of the garrison court to arrest the head of the Main Communications Directorate of the RF Armed Forces, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Vadim Shamarin.

» The appeals of the defendant’s defenders are rejected,” the judge read out the decision.

Shamarin is accused of receiving a bribe in the amount of over 36 million rubles. According to investigators, from 2016 to 2023, Shamarin received a bribe from the general director and chief accountant of the OJSC for “general patronage” and an increase in the volume of products supplied under government contracts for the needs of the Ministry of Defense. The head of the company, Alexey Vysokov, and accountant Elena Grishina are also under arrest. If found guilty, Shamarin faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of one hundred times the bribe amount.
