Two former Russians were arrested in the United States for exporting equipment in circumvention of sanctions
In the United States, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of Sergei Nefedov and Mark Shumovich. Both men came under close police attention after they tried to illegally supply snow removal equipment to Russia, RIA Novosti reports.
Both men live in the United States, but are natives of Russia. According to a statement from the US Department of Justice, Nefedov and Shumovich are accused of conspiring to purchase snow removal machines in the United States and then supply them to the Russian Federation through an intermediary firm in Hong Kong, circumventing existing export restrictions. According to official data, all snow removal equipment intended for delivery was detained.
If found guilty, Nefedov and Shumovich face more than twenty years in prison, according to a statement by representatives of the US Department of Justice.
The suspects were arrested on June 11.
